How do you select your health professionals?

Each professional is screened and must apply to join the Health Practitioner Network. We do not accept any professional simply because they are licensed. We make sure that each professional is an excellent clinician especially in their area of expertise, actively consults and collaborates with other practitioners and uses evidence-based practices.

What does "Integrative" mean?

  1. Wholeness. Each professional in the Integrative Health Network (IHN) is committed to you becoming more whole. Health, including flexibility in problem solving and relating, naturally occurs when your thinking, feeling, behavioral, physiological, relational, and spiritual system are brought into greater balance. By having greater self-awareness and making concrete, effective behavioral changes, you are then able to fully engage with life and others with greater openness and authenticity.
  2. Flexibility. Each member of IHN integrates, or assimilates some of the most effective strategies from other theoretical perspectives rather than imposing a “one size fits all” approach. This forms the foundation for comprehensive treatment.
  3. Consultation. Integrative also refers to working with other integrative health practitioners in order to complement and strengthen the treatment services being provided.  For example, if you are addressing issues of anxiety or insomnia with your therapist, then you may also be recommended to see a Psychiatrist or Acupuncturist as well, with whom we will consult. It is important to know that we have access to some of the best integrative health practitioners in South Florida and that this approach will allow you even greater treatment success.
  4. Integrative Medicine. Integrative Medicine combines conventional Western medicine with alternative or complementary treatments including herbs, supplements, and stress reduction techniques such as yoga and meditation. Integrative Medicine views the patients holistically, taking into account their psychological, physical, and spiritual health as well as lifestyle choices. Integrative Medicine selectively picks the most scientifically validated therapies from both conventional Western and alternative medicine. Integrative medicine practitioners does not reject conventional medicine yet maintains a health skepticism of alternative therapies as well. Finally, Integrative Medicine promotes overall health and vitality focusing on the prevention of illness and disease.

Is Psychotherapy confidential?

Information discussed in the therapy setting is held confidential and not shared without written permission except under certain circumstances which can be discussed with your therapist or Psychiatrist.

How is psychotherapy different than talking to a friend/family member?

A psychotherapist listens to you objectively, with as little bias as possible. A psychotherapist is trained to listen in a special way, ensure your privacy, and clinically treat mental health issues that family and friends may not understand.

How is the Integrative Health Network unique compared to other on-line directories?

Simplified Search: Our on-line directory completely streamlines the process of finding a local health professional. You will be directed to the best local specialist (e.g. Anxiety) eliminating the stress of reading through countless therapist profiles and preventing you from being matched with the wrong practitioner as commonly happens with current on-line directories (e.g Psychology Today, Good Therapy). We also provide a unique Concierge Referral service if you need more individualized assistance in finding the right practitioner.

Pre-Qualified Specialists: Our professionals are known for their specialty and considered to be experts in the field. They do not practice outside of their scope of training nor market themselves in this way. Other on-line directories use a "yellow- pages" approach blindly accepting any practitioner. We are more concerned about quality of care than quantity of members.

Rigorous Standards: All of our practitioners are thoroughly pre-screened. We usually only accept recommended practitioners. Simply being licensed does not qualify someone to join the Health Network. Each professional must be known for their clinical specialty, provide excellent quality of patient care, and regularly consult and collaborate with other professionals. The popular on-line directories claim to provide only qualified professionals, however they have no way of actually monitoring or enforcing these standards.

Real Relationships: The commonly used on-line directories do not actually know their professionals. At Integrative Change, we have created working relationships with all of our professionals and are actively committed to their professional development.

What is the difference between Psychotherapist, a Psychiatrist and a Psychologist?

A psychiatrist is going to treat your symptoms through prescription medication. The Psychiatrists in our Therapist Network are highly skilled at diagnosis and determining the best medications for you.  Psychotherapists include Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, Licensed Social Workers and Licensed Mental Health Counselors. They do not prescribe medication but will help you address the root causes of your symptoms and strengthen your coping skills. Depending on the issue, a combination of both psychotherapy and psychiatric treatment is sometimes an effective approach. Psychologists do not prescribe medication but also provide psychotherapy and often provide psychological testing and evaluations for specific disorders.
